Jakarta, Indonesia - 15 October 2020 – To commemorate Global Handwashing Day on October 15, Ecolab together with Danone-AQUA amplify "Hand Hygiene for All," a campaign bringing hand hygiene awareness and products to districts and villages across Indonesia.
In this time of COVID-19, good hand hygiene is one of the simplest ways to prevent disease transmission.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), three billion people (40% of the global population) have no means of handwashing with soap and water at home. Based on a recent survey in Indonesia last September from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), only 75% of 90,967 respondents indicated compliance with handwashing guidelines. These numbers reflect an unfamiliarity with the importance of basic handwashing among the general population.
To support the campaign last October, Ecolab provided more than 1,500 liters of hand soaps and hand sanitizers while Danone-AQUA distributed these hygiene products through local governments and communities. The distribution covered 12 target locations: Mekarsari, Langkat, Brastagi, Solok, Tanggamus, Ciherang Bogor, Babakan Pari, Citeureup, Subang, Cianjur, Kebon Candi and Pandaan. Danone-AQUA accompanied the products with instructions on proper hand hygiene as well.
Allan Yong, Senior VP and Managing Director of Ecolab, Southeast Asia says, "We are proud to be working with Danone-AQUA to support our communities. We want to bring more awareness around the importance of proper hand hygiene.”
“This collaboration between Danone-AQUA and Ecolab represents a community-level effort towards overcoming the spread of COVID-19. Collaborations like ours are essential at this time. We believe by working together across the private sector, local governments, and communities, we are able to make a bigger impact than working apart. We also appreciate Ecolab's support of our efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19 transmission, especially in various locations where Danone-AQUA operates,” adds Vera Galuh, VP General Secretary Danone Indonesia.
